Living Water

This week, when I was reading, John 4:14 stuck out to me. I wanted to share something that had to do with that scripture. This story begins with Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at a well. Jesus was traveling from Judea to Galilee. He did not have to go through Samaria on this journey, but He chose to. He chose to give life that day—everlasting life. When the Samaritan woman saw Jesus at the well, she probably didn’t know what to expect. Why was He there? Why was He talking to her? Jesus asked her for a drink of water, and what she got in return was far more than she ever imagined. He offered her living water. I can’t imagine how she must have felt when she realized what was happening—how she felt when she realized that she was standing face to face with the Messiah, and He was offering her living water, everlasting life. Jesus chose to meet this woman. He chose to give her living water, and she accepted it. Will we do the same?
Several places in the Bible Jesus is referred to as the bread of life and living water. What does this mean for us? On a daily basis we eat and drink to sustain and fuel our bodies. We must also do the same in our spiritual lives. We have to feed our souls with his word. We have to feed our souls by spending time with him. I know that I said something similar to this last week about spending time with him and maybe it’s because I need to hear it myself. It’s important y’all! He is the bread of life. He is the living water. We need Him every day!
"But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:14
And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:35
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." John 7:37-38
Amen! I needed this encouragement.
