How Do We Love God?

We know that God loves us and loved us first, but how do we love Him? To love God, we have to follow His commands and keep His word. To do that, we have to know what His word says. We have to be intentional with our time and actions. We need to be spending time daily reading and studying His word, and we need to be spending time daily in prayer. These are both things I am trying to be intentional about and working on. These things help us grow closer to God and love Him more. The more we realize just how much we need Him, the more we love Him. The more we realize how much we don’t deserve what He has done for us, the more we love Him.

Studying the Bible can be very intimidating, and so can prayer. We think that we have to come before the Lord perfectly, but we can come just as we are, with a humble heart. Don’t let doubt get into your mind and discourage you. Just start somewhere. Start in the gospels and read about the life of Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you as you are reading. Ask God to reveal Himself to you through His word. If you seek Him, you will find Him. The more we spend time with Him, the more we love Him.

But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God is made complete. This is how we know we are in him. 1 John 2:5 

The one who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father. I also will love him and will reveal myself to him. John 14:21

Jesus answered, If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. John 14:23
